Music Director at Trillium – 15 hours weekly on average with seasonal flexibility.

Areas of Responsibility:


Worship Band – Focus 45%

The band leads congregational singing to enhance the worship message and inspire the expression of Trillium’s Mission and Vision

  • Recruit and schedule volunteers to ensure balanced presentation of music has a range of instruments, and vocalists
  • Organize and lead practice during the week to help volunteers to learn and refine songs.
  • Lead band practice/warm-up prior to worship service
  • Select songs that complement the worship theme in collaboration with pastor and worship committee
  • Introduce new songs with input from music volunteers
  • Ensure words for worship songs are on slides projected during worship services
  • Maintain band equipment (mikes, cables etc) to ensure good working order
  • Schedule sound board volunteers
  • Ensure training and support for sound board volunteers
  • Maintain songs in Band Music Binders for all volunteers

Children/Youth Band/Choir – Focus 15%

Music programming, either vocal or instrumental, by children and/or youth to add to the worship experience at regular services and special occasions in the church community.

  • Invite children / youth to participate in music program
  • Identify musical gifts among children / youth
  • Coach / mentor children/youth to develop their musical gifts
  • Plan and organize opportunities for children/youth to share music with the congregation


Volunteer LeadershipFocus 5%

Volunteers support to music programming for children, youth and adults.

  • Invite, encourage and equip congregants to assist with organization/administration of music programs
  • Invite, encourage and equip congregants to lead music programs


Vacation Bible Camp – Focus 7%

Music programming during Vacation Bible Camp (operates one week in summer)

  • Select songs in collaboration with youth pastor
  • Recruit volunteer musicians – vocalists, instrumentalists – to assist in program
  • Practice songs with volunteers in preparation for VBC
  • Oversee / lead music program during VBC

Adult vocalists and instrumentalists  - Focus 10%

Volunteer involvement in music programming (Band, Children / Youth, Special Music)


  • Identify and recruit volunteers with musical skills from the congregation
  • Coach and encourage volunteers in their musical skills
  • Provide opportunities for volunteers to offer their musical skills during worship services, Child / Youth Band / Choir, Worship Music with children, Christmas, Easter, and other special occasions.


Worship Music with children/youth – Focus 3%

Vocal or instrumental music that adds to the worship/educational experience in  SKA


  • Coordinate child-centered worship music in SKA on a regular basis (e.g. monthly) in collaboration with youth pastor


Special Music – Focus 10%

Small groups/solos that add to the worship experience during worship services at offertory, Christmas and Easter.


  • Select/purchase music selections for special music offerings
  • Prepare and/or perform offertory piece at each Sunday morning worship service
  • Recruit and prepare vocalists and instrumentalists for solos, duets, small groups that add to the Sunday morning worship experience (monthly) and for Christmas and Easter services
  • If volunteers are not available from the congregation, seek musicians from the community


Administrative - Focus 5%


  • Provide Worship Committee with reports as required
  • Be accountable to the Worship Committee and attend Worship Committee meetings
  • Prepare yearly budget for music programming and monitor expenses


Qualifications, Skills, Competencies:


Ability to work within Trillium’s mission, vision, beliefs and values

Highly skilled keyboard player

Diploma or degree in music

Strong organizational and administrative skills

Nurturing of the musical skills of volunteer singers / instrumentalists of all ages

Experience in a range of styles from Christian classics (hymns) to contemporary music

Collegial working style
Effective communication skills

Experience with technical aspects of contemporary worship services including sound boards, band equipment, etc



Skilled at instruments other than keyboard

Composing, arranging, writing, and sequencing music

Producing / directing special events and programs


Compensation:  Negotiable, based on RCCO scale
