Awaken Church is a local parish-minded church located in the neighbourhood of Bowenss within Calgary, AB.

While the majority of congregants call Bowness their home, many that have joined our community since the pandemic had been welcomed from neighbourhoods all over the city. These newcomers have been drawn not only by the unique character of Bowness, but by our vehemently affirming stance towards queer Christians and female leadership, our desire for reconciliation with indigenous peoples and the land on which we live, and our high view of Scripture. Although it does not apply to every member of our community, many who call Awaken their home are on the fringes of Evangelicalism or would go so far as to say they are Ex-Vangelicals.

 

Regardless, Awaken is tied together by a shared desire to establish a faithful presence in Bowness and beyond by living in community with our neighbours and contributing to the well-being of our neighbourhood in Jesus’ name. Our church longs to be an agent of reconciliation and peace in Bowness, even as we ache for the Spirit of God to bring reconciliation and peace to our hearts and our church community.
