Assistant Cook / Guest Service Staff

Position: Full-time preferred but part-time can be discussed.
Full-time salary range: $43,000 - $53,000 + benefits and RRSP Contribution
Reports To:  Food Services Coordinator and Managing Director

 

IAWAH Christian Ministries is a non-denominational, charitable, year-round camp that is centrally located to serve the communities of Eastern Ontario. The Camp features a Christian message; great activities, dedicated staff, and a welcoming natural space. IAWAH exists to plant seeds of faith, nurture disciples, and cultivate leadership - seeking to create an experience where guests are welcomed, inspired and meet Christ.

 

General Qualifications
The Assistant Cook/Facility Assistant role is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships, and behaviour as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Camp Iawah’s mission, vision, core values and beliefs, and statement of faith. They are responsible for cultivating, and leading kitchen and facility staff under their management, including those in our youth leadership programs. All staff are expected to join gatherings which include prayer, worship, and Bible-centered teaching.

 

Iawah is seeking an employee who:

  • Loves mentoring and coaching youth and volunteers in a Christian camp setting.

 

Assistant Cook Role: 50%

Primary Objective

The Assistant Cook is to provide a fantastic IAWAH experience to guests through food service. This objective is met by assisting the food service coordinator in planning, ordering, preparing, serving and cleaning up food. The Assistant cook oversees the kitchen staff and ensures safe kitchen procedures are followed, at times they are the primary cook in the kitchen leading a shift of 1-5 workers. The majority of kitchen work will happen between May and October.

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Work as one of the main Cooks for guest groups and summer camps preparing dietary alternatives when necessary. 
  • Work diligently to adapt to each group and be flexible to the needs presented. 
  • Ensure all meals are ready and on time.
  • Assist the food service coordinator with menu planning, ordering, inventory, and supply management.
  • Keep the kitchen and all other work areas clean and tidy.
  • Be client-focused.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Assistant Cook is responsible to train and lead the kitchen and dishwashing teams under their supervision. This includes call-in staff, volunteers, and youth leadership campers.

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary training in food services is preferred.

Work Experience

  • Previous experience working in food services is preferred.
  • Previous experience leading teams in any capacity is preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • A working knowledge of food services and can cook for large groups of up to 250 people.
  • Be creative in food preparation and presentation.
  • Some understanding/knowledge of alternative diets and food allergies, i.e. gluten-free, vegan, dairy-free.
  • Undertake the required courses such as safe food handling to perform kitchen duties. 

 

Guest Service Staff: 50%

Primary Objective

As a member of the guest service team you will work to make the IAWAH accommodation and buildings guest ready. This will be accomplished through houskeeping inbetween guest groups. The role is ideal for the individual who is gifted in efficient and detailed cleaning and building preparation. Under the direction of the Managing Director, the successful candidate will be able to follow procedures, work independently or collaborating with IAWAH team members and volunteers. The role may also involve general building upkeep, such as painting, deep cleaning, and preparation of the grounds. The majority of guest service work will happen between guest groups and during the months of November through April. 

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Report to and work with the managing director.
  • Prepare buildings for guests, including houskeeping, and laundry services.
  • Proactively plan their day to ensure guest readiness in alignment with the guest group needs. 
  • Undertake training programs necessary to perform the required functions of the role (paid for by Camp IAWAH).
  • Gradually assume greater responsibility for the care and housekeeping of Camp IAWAH.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

The Guest Service staff  is responsible to train and lead the seasonal housekeeping team. This includes call-in staff, volunteers, and youth leadership campers.

 

Qualifications

Work Experience

  • Previous experience working in guest services and/or housekeeping is preferred.
  • Previous experience leading teams in any capacity is preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • A working knowledge of cleaning equipment 

 

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and some holidays.
  • Satisfactory completion and approval of a Police Records and Vulnerable Persons Sector Check.
  • Signed agreement of  Iawah's Vision, Mission, Core Values and Beliefs, and Statement of Faith.
