Associate Pastor of Families & Principal, First Baptist Classical Academy
Position Overview
First Baptist Church of Kamloops seeks a biblically qualified, Spirit-filled pastor to serve as Associate Pastor of Families and Principal of First Baptist Classical Academy (FBCA). This dual role encompasses both pastoral ministry to families within the church and administrative leadership of the church's classical Christian school. The successful candidate will be a man of godly character who demonstrates both pastoral care and educational vision, leading with wisdom, humility, and a commitment to the authority of Scripture.
Organizational Accountability
- Reports to: Senior Pastor
- Works collaboratively with: Church elders, pastoral staff, FBCA Board, and church ministry leaders
- Supervises: FBCA faculty and staff, children's and youth ministry volunteers
Spiritual Qualifications
The candidate must meet the biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9, including:
- Above reproach in character and conduct
- The husband of one wife, managing his household well
- Temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable
- Able to teach sound doctrine and refute those who contradict it
- Not given to drunkenness or addiction of any kind, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money
- Not a recent convert
- A good reputation with others in the community, outside the church
Theological Commitments
- Commitment to the inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture as the Word of God
- Adherence to historic Baptist distinctives, including believer's baptism by immersion and congregational church governance
- Commitment to Complementarian theology regarding gender roles in church and home
- Agreement with First Baptist Church's Statement of Faith
- Passion for the Gospel and the Great Commission
Education and Experience
Required:
- Bible College Diploma or Bachelor's degree
- Minimum 3-5 years of pastoral ministry experience
- Demonstrated experience in family ministry, children's ministry, or youth ministry
- Strong leadership and administrative abilities
- Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening
Preferred:
- Experience in Christian education and understanding of classical pedagogy
- Experience in educational administration or school leadership
- BC Teacher Certification or willingness to obtain
- Familiarity with the classical Trivium (Grammar, Logic, Rhetoric) and its application to Christian education
Responsibilities
General Pastoral Duties
- Preach occasionally in Sunday worship services as assigned by the Senior Pastor
- Participate in church leadership meetings and strategic planning
- Assist with worship services, baptisms, communion, weddings, funerals, child dedications, and other church ceremonies
- Collaborate with other pastoral staff and ministry leaders to support the overall mission and vision of First Baptist Church
- Represent the church in the community and maintain relationships with fellow pastors and ministries
Family Ministry Leadership
- Provide pastoral care to families within the congregation
- Equip parents to be the primary spiritual leaders and disciple-makers of their children
Children's and Youth Ministry Oversight
- Oversee children's ministry (nursery through elementary) and Youth Ministry (middle school and high school), volunteer recruitment and training, and ensuring biblically sound teaching and age-appropriate discipleship, and Sunday programming.
- Ensure all children's and youth ministry activities align with the church's doctrinal convictions and safeguarding policies
School & Educational Vision and Leadership
- Serve as the spiritual and educational leader of First Baptist Classical Academy, ensuring the school operates in alignment with its Christian mission and classical educational philosophy
- Articulate and promote the vision of classical Christian education rooted in the Trivium, virtue formation, and biblical discipleship
- Foster a culture of academic excellence, Christ-centered community, and formative spiritual growth
- Ensure integration of biblical truth across all subjects and school activities
Administrative and Operational Management
- Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities management, and compliance with BC education regulations
- Develop and manage the school budget in collaboration with the FBCA Board and church leadership
- Lead enrollment and admissions processes, including family interviews and student placement
- Manage student records, reporting, and communication with parents
- Coordinate with the church regarding shared facilities and resources
Faculty and Staff Leadership
- Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate FBCA faculty and staff
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide instructional coaching and professional development
- Lead weekly faculty meetings, prayer times, and professional development sessions
- Foster a collaborative, mission-driven faculty culture committed to classical pedagogy and Christian formation
Curriculum and Academic Excellence
- Oversee curriculum development and selection, ensuring alignment with classical standards and BC learning outcomes
- Monitor student academic progress and implement interventions as needed
- Coordinate standardized testing and assessment
- Plan and execute school events including recitations, Socratic seminars, and classical presentations
Parent and Community Relations
- Maintain open and regular communication with FBCA families
- Provide parent education on classical Christian education philosophy and practices
- Address parent concerns and resolve conflicts with grace and biblical wisdom
- Lead school marketing and recruitment efforts, including open houses and community outreach
- Collaborate with the FBCA Board on strategic planning and development initiatives
Student Discipline and Pastoral Care
- Oversee student discipline in accordance with school policies and biblical principles
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual mentorship to students and school families
- Model Christian character and servant leadership to the entire school community

- Adaptability and Problem-Solving: Capacity to navigate challenges with wisdom, creativity, and grace
Working Conditions
- Full-time position (40+ hours per week), with flexibility required for evening and weekend ministry activities
- Primary work locations include church office, FBCA classrooms/office, and family homes (pastoral visitation)
- Some travel may be required for conferences, training, or ministry events
Compensation and Benefits
Competitive salary between $50 to $60k commensurate with experience and education, along with benefits package including health insurance, retirement plan contributions, and professional development allowance. Specific compensation details will be discussed during the interview process.
