Description

Bethany Evangelical Missionary Church is seeking a reliable, hands-on Custodian to support the cleaning, maintenance, and setup needs of our church facility in Kitchener.

This part-time role is an important part of helping our ministry spaces stay clean, safe, and ready for worship services, meetings, special events, and everyday church life.

Position Details

  • Position: Custodian

  • Reports to: Facilities Manager

  • Department: Facilities

  • Workplace classification: Part-time

  • Hours: 12 hours per week

  • Schedule: Mondays, Fridays, and as needed

  • Location: Bethany Church facility, Kitchener

What You'll Do

In this role, you will help keep the church building and grounds clean, safe, and welcoming for staff, congregation members, and guests. Responsibilities include:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing washrooms

  • Vacuuming and spot cleaning carpets

  • Dusting and removing cobwebs

  • Taking out garbage and recycling

  • Replacing burned-out lights

  • Performing minor repairs and painting

  • Assisting with room setup and tear-down for meetings and events, including weddings and funerals

  • Checking the sanctuary for garbage and general upkeep

  • Reporting safety, sanitary, or fire hazards

  • Keeping walkways and outdoor areas clean and orderly

  • Working with office staff and the Facilities team to maintain kitchen standards in line with food safety legislation

  • Following WHMIS procedures when using cleaning products

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will be someone who takes pride in their work, can work independently, and enjoys serving in a church environment. Qualifications and skills include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; custodial experience preferred

  • Understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures

  • Basic repair skills, including plumbing, electrical, and painting tasks

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Strong communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills

  • Flexibility to adjust schedule as church needs change

  • Motivation to prioritize tasks and work independently

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check

  • Willingness to comply with Plan to Protect and become an Approved Worker

This role may include other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager or Lead Pastor. The successful candidate will help create a clean, welcoming, and well-maintained environment that supports the full ministry of Bethany Church.
