The Opportunity:

This is a full-time 7-month contract opportunity (which may be extended in future) for a Job Coach to provide care management, training and advocacy work to support part-time employed participants (ages 18-30) in job retention, upskilling and career advancement. Focus demographic includes those within racialized backgrounds, living with disabilities and/or mental health issues, criminal justice involvement, and precariously housed. This position operates from within our social innovation workforce development project - Retention Achieved through Maximized Partnerships (RAMP) in supporting our Workforce Development Framework. The ideal candidate works closely with the project team to deliver innovative solutions to support participants in meaningful labour market attainment. This position reports to the RAMP Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with YSM employment staff and other departments for referrals, screening and assessment of participant suitability
  • Provides wrap-around care management support in collaboration with YSM staff to participants and maintaining customized training support plans
  • Provides individual job coaching/counselling/mentoring to support participants in conflict resolution, personal/professional development
  • Researches and incorporates current trends, labour market information and best practices in job retention and career development
  • Develop and deliver skill-based learning contents (onsite and virtual) to support participants in capacity building and job retention
  • Utilizes appropriate career assessment tools and approaches to meet individual needs in the career exploration advising process
  • Liaise with employer partners with support and leadership from Workforce Development team to ensure participants receive ongoing employment and career development support
  • Document participant activity in YSM database and paper files in accordance with YSM and funder requirements
  • Expense annual targeted expenditures for participant supports in consultation with RAMP Project Coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Related post-secondary education in social work/community service work/adult education or equivalent experience
  • Experience with counselling, case management, and/or job coaching activities
  • Understanding of cross cultural, anti-oppressive, and trauma informed practices
  • Comfort working in an unpredictable drop-in environment with participants experiencing various forms of trauma; able to quickly and sensitively respond to high-stress situations
  • High level of self-awareness; strong coping skills and supportive community (including faith community) needed to avoid emotional strain and potential burnout
  • Provides individual job coaching/counselling/mentoring to support participants in conflict resolution, personal/professional development
  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written); excellent interpersonal, presentation and coaching skills
  • Strong time management, information tracking, and prioritization skills
  • Initiative to exercise sharp critical thinking skills and sound judgment to problem solve independently
  • Flexible to work outside of standard hours when necessary
  • Knowledge of current employment-related legislation (e.g. ESA, OHRC)
  • CPI, Mental Health, First Aid Training is an asset; A vulnerable sector police check will be required
