Position summary:
The Lead Pastor is one of the elders of the church and gives leadership and direction to SouthRidge to ensure that it is working toward the accomplishment of its mission and vision.
This individual is responsible to ensure that the key ministry results of SouthRidge are being achieved.
Position accountability:
This individual is accountable to the Board through board governance executive limitations.
Key position responsibilities:
Mission and Vision
- To work with the Board and lead the staff to ensure that SouthRidge is working towards
accomplishing its mission and vision. - To be a key catalyst in working with the Board during any vision renewal process.
Strategic Planning
- To present to the Board an annual strategic plan for Board approval.
- To collaborate with the staff in establishing the church’s strategic initiatives and their
accomplishment.
Staff and Ministry Leadership
- To work with the Executive Pastor to ensure staff development (both in-house and external opportunities), performance evaluations, and appropriate supervision of day-to-day activities are occurring.
- To work with the Executive Pastor in the hiring of all new staff to ensure a culture fit with SouthRidge as well as managing changes to the organizational structure and position descriptions.
- To be the key voice in setting the leadership culture at SouthRidge.
To ensure that all ministries of SouthRidge have the appropriate leadership in place.
Preaching and Teaching
- To be the primary preaching pastor of SouthRidge.
- To oversee the teaching and preaching that occur at SouthRidge.
- To raise up a strong preaching team at SouthRidge.
Operational/Financial Management
- To ensure both the operational readiness and financial matters of SouthRidge by working through the Executive Pastor and the Director of Operations who will oversee the day-to-day operation and financial management of the church (including managing risk).

- Will be known for friendliness, discretion, trustworthiness, stability, compassion, and integrity.

- Can maintain a balance between family, work and personal wellness.
Will guard his spouse (and children) from inappropriate stress of ministry pressure.
Skills and Experience:
The person we are looking for:
- Has demonstrated living out the mission of SouthRidge in their own life (Loving God, changing the world one life at a time).
- Models our core values (leadership, servanthood, generosity) and our leadership values
(humour, casual, excellence, humility) in their life. - Has a collaborative leadership style and the demonstrated ability to build a team.
- Demonstrates a pastoral heart for the care of individuals and the congregation.
- Has a personal orientation towards action, is self-starting, and is solutions oriented.
- Will possess strong Biblical and theological training and be able to derive clear application for living from Biblical texts.
- Will demonstrate proficiency in communicating Biblical truth, ministry vision and strategy, and training material in a variety of settings.
- Has experience being part of a larger church staff team (10 or more) at the executive team level and understands how a larger church functions and operates.
- Understands board governance and its application in a church context.
Will demonstrate the ability to translate the overall vision and strategic plans of the church into the daily church life. - Preferably has a Master’s degree and 10 years experience in pastoral ministry.
Terms of employment:
This position is a full-time position.
- This individual will agree to SouthRidge’s statement of faith and become a partner of SouthRidge Fellowship.
- This individual will be remunerated according to terms worked out by the Board and mutually agreed upon by the individual and the Board. The anticipated salary range is between $105,000 and $115,000.
- This individual will have a criminal record check and complete SouthRidge’s child protection policy. If a prior criminal record is revealed, this may result in a reconsideration of this person’s application.
- This position is subject to an annual performance evaluation conducted by the Board.
- This individual will be expected to continue to develop professionally. Areas of development may be identified in the annual performance evaluation.
- This relationship may be terminated by the individual with 30 days written notice. The Board may recommend to the Partners to dismiss the individual for failing to meet the character qualifications, failing to fulfill the ministry job description, or if the individual’s beliefs become at variance with the church’s statement of faith.
