Hope Story is looking to hire a Social Media Intern who is skilled and confident in the areas of video editing, social media marketing, communication skills, and written & video content creation*.

Start date: May 29. 2023
Length of Internship: 8 weeks; 35 hours/week
This position is fully remote and only available to youth who qualify for the Canada Summer Jobs program.**

The successful candidate will be able to create video content specifically for promoting Hope Story on Instagram and Facebook and will possess the relevant knowledge base needed for contributing to the social media marketing of Hope Story, a small but growing Christian international relief and development organization serving the needs of vulnerable children and youth in multiple countries.

To ensure success, the applicant will possess creative and analytical skills with a keen interest in effectively presenting Hope Story’s brand and communicating our values.

*Applicants chosen for a SECOND interview will be asked to provide a 15-30 second video created by the applicant for social media, promoting any real or fictional social cause.

Reporting and Responsibilities:

The Hope Story Social Media Intern will report to Hope Story’s Director of Marketing and Communications. The Social Media Intern will be assigned special projects designed to contribute to Hope Story’s organization-specific communications & marketing strategy and to extend Hope Story’s social media reach.

These special projects will include but not be limited to:

  • Market research
  • Creation and development of video content & strategy for use on social media
  • Analysis of past performance of video on Hope Story’s social media channels
  • Development of a Hope Story YouTube strategy and YouTube content
  • Uploading and tagging video resources

Required Skills:

The successful Social Media Intern candidate will be:

  • Skilled and experienced in video editing
  • Skilled and experienced in social media content (in a professional context)
  • Skilled in written communication and storytelling
  • An analytical thinker with exceptional creative skills
  • Able to work both independently and as part of a team.

These additional skills would be assets:

  • not-for-profit communications experience
  • experience in SEO
  • international relief and development life experience

** To be eligible, youth must: • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period; • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and, • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
