Hope Story is looking to hire a Writer-Editor Summer Intern possessing the ability to write and edit thoughtful and engaging documents that are in line with our brand guide.

Start date: May 29. 2023
Length of Internship: 8 weeks; 35 hours/week
This role will be either fully remote or hybrid: part-time in the Cambridge, ON office and part-time remote work.
This job is open to youth who qualify* for the Canada Summer Jobs Program

The successful candidate will be expected to possess project management and organizational skills with the ability to work well with others and deliver results in a timely manner. This person will be responsible for creating content that will engage with the audience of Hope Story, a small but growing Christian international relief and development organization serving the needs of vulnerable children and youth in multiple countries.

To ensure success, the Writer-Editor Intern should demonstrate creativity and analytical skills with a keen interest in effectively presenting and communicating our values through our child sponsorship program to the outside world, ensuring that key messages and values align with Hope Story’s brand and communications strategy.

Reporting and Responsibilities:

The Hope Story Writer-Editor Intern will report to Hope Story’s Sponsorship Coordinator. At times they will also collaborate with Hope Story’s Director of Marketing and Communications.

  • Review and edit form submissions from our partners for the children supported in their programs such that these submissions can interact with mail-merge software.
  • Draft profile descriptions for at-risk children who are new to the child sponsorship program using previously gathered information.
  • Write appreciation pieces that will be shared with Hope Story’s donors.
  • Assist with updating our customer relations management system.

Required Skills:

The successful Writer-Editor Summer Intern candidate will:

  • be able to work well as a member of a collaborative, creative team
  • possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • possess expertise with Microsoft software: Excel, Word
  • be able to analyze data and edit to be reader-friendly
  • be able to curate, research, and create quality content

These additional skills would be assets:

  • not-for-profit communications experience
  • international relief and development life experience
  • customer or donor relations experience.

* To be eligible, youth must: • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period; • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and, • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
