Job Description – Youth & Young Adults Minister
Reports to: Andrew Johnson, Staff Elder
Position Overview:
West Village Church is seeking a winsome disciplemaker in Jesus to shepherd and send youth and young adults out in Christ’s name in Victoria. This person understands that this role is three equal parts pushed together;
- A leader that gathers and creates a welcoming discipling environment for students and young adults (2 spaces) to feel seen and known by others their age
- A leader that equips and empowers believers to grow as disciples who disciple like Jesus
- A leader that trains and shepherds the leaders who serve within the ministries
The successful candidate will exhibit a strong character, possess leadership skills, shepherding skills, be able to communicate the gospel clearly, and have the ability to train others around simple missional tools.
This position is full-time and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Salary range: CA$50,000-$65,000
Key Responsibilities:
- ● West Village Youth (WVYTH) Oversight:
○ Responsible for recruiting, training, and shepherding a team of qualified layleaders to help lead WVYTH
○ Responsible for creating regular spaces to engage and disciple youth in Christ ○ Routine communication with parents about WVYTH needs and West Village life - ● West Village Young Adult (WVYA) Oversight:
○ Responsible for recruiting, training, and shepherding a team of qualified layleaders to help lead WVYA
○ Responsible for creating regular spaces to engage and disciple young adults inJesus
○ Routine communication with participants about WVYA needs and West Villagelife
- ● Developing age appropriate Equipping Training
- ○ Will seek to adapt existing training and tools as well as create more to help equip youth and young adults as disciples that make disciples in coordination with West Village’s overall vision
- ○ Will include planning and facilitating retreats, mission trips, and training days
- ● Supporting Sunday Gathering needs: Will participate in and have responsibility forappropriate aspects of the Sunday gathering (to be determined around gifting and need).
- ● Supporting Corporate West Village Events: As part of the larger staff team, will share in the responsibility of planning and facilitating corporate events (ex. Christmas Eve Gathering, Church Picnic, Men’s/Women’s nights, etc...)
- ● Supporting parents of WVYTH in family discipleship: Will seek to be a resource for parents in family discipleship through building strong relationships with parents, sharing resources, and strong communicationQualifications:
- ● Character: Exemplify the qualities outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7, demonstrating integrity, humility, and a genuine love for God and people
- ● Theological Alignment: Possess a strong theological foundation aligned with West Village's statement of faith, our distinctives, and Soma Values
- ● Leadership Experience: Demonstrable leadership experience working with youth and young adults
- ● Education: Post-secondary theological education completed or in process
- ● Innovation: WVYTH has room to grow and WVYA awaits creation
- ● Demonstrable Missional Impulse: Living on mission should not be an abstract idea butan evident part of the candidate's life
- ● Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with theability to clearly articulate vision
Bonus Qualifications:
- ● Experience in missional theology and practice
- ● Familiarity and willingness to work with Soma philosophy of ministry
- ● A self-starter with good self-awareness and healthy rhythms
