Description
The Gateway Community Church (GCC) Youth and Family Ministries Pastor will be responsible for the leadership, coordination, and implementation of children and youth programs, from K-12th Grade. Through consistent, godly engagement with students and their families, the Pastor will seek to make disciples of the youth under his care.
Qualifications
- Has a strong and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, exhibiting godly character
- Can articulate a call to full-time ministry
- Possesses a Bible College/Seminary degree (or its equivalent) in theological studies and/or youth ministry
- Has a heart for children and youth
- Has the ability to organize and lead children and youth events, including teaching times
- Able to communicate effectively with all ages
- Able to recruit, train, and empower volunteers in children and youth ministries
- Is teachable and open to feedback and accountability
- In agreement with GCC’s statement of faith and policies
Duties and Responsibilities
- In general
- Provide pastoral care for the children and youth of GCC
- Provide visionary leadership in children and youth ministries, anticipating and preparing for changing demographics
- Identify, recruit, train, and empower volunteers
- Communicate clearly with youth and parents regarding events, requirements, needs, and concerns
- Intentionally communicate on a personal basis with each family every year (i.e. visitation)
- Become a certified trainer in Plan to Protect® and carefully follow all its guidelines
- Discover and distribute resources beneficial for parenting
- Become an active part of the GCC family
- Other pastoral duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor or Elders Board
- Youth
- Plan and coordinate regular (weekly) youth events from mid-September through mid/end-June, seeking to maintain a balance between social and spiritual needs
- Develop a program for a weekly small group Bible study
- Identify, mentor, and empower Christian youth within the group for ministry
- Foster a sense of community within the youth and of identity with GCC
- Become a presence in local schools as possible
- Work together with other local churches/youth pastors as possible
- Maintain connection with the youth throughout the summer months
- Children and Families
- Become the AWANA Commander, providing oversight of the ministry from September through the first week of May
- Teach Sunday School on a rotational basis (approximately 1 Sunday/month)
- Facilitate a Vacation Bible School or 5 Day Club each summer
This is a fulltime, salaried position for 40 hours per week with 2 days off per week (as a pastor demonstrating leadership, some weekly volunteer hours are also appropriate) and starting with three weeks vacation per annum. As typical with pastoral positions, Sunday is a workday, responding to afterhours congregational emergencies is required when necessary, and availability during evenings or for occasional Saturday church event is expected.
