Description

Chartwell is seeking a full-time Next Gen Pastor to join our staff team. The NextGen Pastor will pursue our congregation’s Mission and Vision as they relate to Jr./Sr. High students and Young Adults, by creatively implementing a holistic ministry with a strategic focus on discipleship/spiritual formation, missional service, and leadership development.

PRIMARY MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cultivate healthy and authentic pastoral relationships with youth [Gr. 6-12] and young adults [~19-26]
  • Facilitate and cultivate environments where young people learn to love and follow Jesus, know and are shaped by the Scriptures, and fully participate in the life of our church family
  • Plan and lead age-appropriate studies relevant to the spiritual formation of youth and young adults
  • Plan and lead activities which cultivate healthy relationships within the NextGen ministries
  • Accordingly, oversee and cultivate spaces in our church community where youth and young adults:
    • are loved, cared for, and find a meaningful place of belonging for who they are
    • are free to ask questions and ‘figure out’ their faith
    • are encouraged and equipped to walk in step with Jesus in every area of life
    • learn to understand and articulate their faith to others
    • learn to live missionally and to actively to engage in mission alongside others in our church, as well as independently in their own lives
  • Recruit, train, and empower adult/youth volunteers to assist with ministry plans and programs
  • Establish and maintain regular and consistent contact with parents and families of youth
  • Oversee, lead, and administrate all details and plans related to annual youth Vision Trip [March Break]
  • Work with other ministry leaders to assist transitions from Children’s Ministry to youth, and from youth to adult life
  • Participate in additional ministry opportunities in conjunction with the Pastoral Team and Lead Pastor

SPECIFIC MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan/lead weekly events for Junior and Senior High students (currently Thursday & Sunday evenings)
  • Attend and participate in Sunday worship service (10:00 am) (currently includes a 1-hour youth class)
  • Plan and prepare for special events and occasions with youth (Christmas, graduations, etc)
  • Develop and maintain effective communication re: youth activities [through church e-news, church app, website, etc.], providing necessary details to administrative staff in a timely manner
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Lead Pastor

STAFF TEAM PARTICIPATION:

  • Participate as a full and contributing member of the Pastoral staff team
  • Personally abide by the Chartwell Child Protection Policy, and ensure that all youth volunteers are informed, trained, and compliant with the policy
  • Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and staff retreats
  • Coordinate ministry activities with other staff members
  • Abide by and advocate for Chartwell policies and procedures, staff covenant, and other organizational statements

REQUIREMENTS:

Spiritual Beliefs and Practice

The NextGen Pastor must be someone with deep faith and significant Christian maturity who lives out a vibrant and public commitment to Jesus, has a genuine love for people, and a heart for local Church ministry.

The NextGen Pastor must be aligned and in agreement with Chartwell’s Statement of Faith, Mission, Vision, and Values.

Character

  • A person of Christ-like character as described in Scripture (1Tim 3:1-7)
  • Conscientious to work/life balance for healthy self-care and the care of family (if applicable)
  • Practices spiritual disciplines that feed life and faith in Jesus and their relationship with Him
  • Willing to work with a mentor for their continued spiritual growth and well-being
  • Willing to work collaboratively alongside the Chartwell staff, reporting to the Lead Pastor
  • Willing to obtain a Police Reference Check for the vulnerable sector

Education

  • Relevant Biblical or Ministry Training (e.g. Bachelor of Youth Ministry, Bachelor of Theology, etc.)
  • Maintains an ongoing study of Scripture and relevant resources focused on personal ministry development
  • Trained and developed capacity to speak to issues facing youth today

Experience

  • Consistent history of local church commitment and involvement
  • History of a growing and increasing leadership capacity
  • A demonstrated track record of building effective teams of both adult and student volunteers
  • Minimum 3-5 years of ministry experience

Missional – Understands and is able to articulate and practice a ‘Missional’ model of ministry

Communicator—Effectively and creatively teach and equip youth in both formal and informal settings

Culturally Aware – Informed on cultural trends, especially as they pertain to youth

Resourceful – Up to date on best practices and current models of youth ministry in a post-Christian context

Leadership – Able to equip volunteers to excel in their roles; passionate about developing the leaders around them

Initiative – willing to ‘step out’, see and solve problems, and lead proactively

COMPENSATION

Chartwell believes in remunerating its staff appropriately, and therefore makes use of CBOQ guidelines and information from the Canadian Council of Christian Charities as frameworks for financial compensation, as commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and education.
